Outdoor Research, a major American apparel and gear brand, has launched a revamp of its already popular down jacket series that is “warmer, lighter, and easier to store.”
For a more earth-friendly approach, the new Transcendent Down Collection features a bluesign-approved 100% recycled nylon 20D shell and lining, responsibly sourced down insulation with over 800 fill power, and several It boasts important sustainable features.
To withstand harsh climates, Outdoor Research’s Transcendent Down Parka and Transcendent Down Jacket are both water and windproof. Additionally, we now offer women’s plus sizes (1X-4X) and women’s hoodie styles, expanding our range.

The brand behind the Vigor full-zip parka, Crocodile Gore-Tex gaiter and Motive AscentShell Jacket touts the Transcendent Down jacket as versatile, practical and stylish enough for winter adventures in rural and urban environments. I’m here. This jacket is versatile enough for belaying from a shady ledge, hiking in cold weather, layering up a hill on a stormy day, or navigating frozen urban environments.
Both the parka and hoodless jacket feature an internal zippered chest pocket, zippered hand pockets with brushed tricot lining, and a hand pocket that doubles as a stuff sack when the jacket is stored in a backpack. Weight varies depending on size and whether you choose a hood, but with most styles well under 400 grams, these jackets won’t add much weight to your luggage.
The Outdoor Research Transcendent collection comes in up to five color choices, but if you’re planning on hiking, we recommend dark stain-resistant colors such as black or amethyst, or lighter shades of Sunrise. If you need to make yourself searchable, increase your visibility on the mountain.
