Lionel Messi and Intermiami were knocked out of the 16 Club World Cup rounds on Sunday by European champion Paris Saint-Germain 4-0. He was PSG’s third clean sheet in the last four games.
After spending two seasons at PSG from 2021 to 23, Messi quickly saw the former team’s score in front of over 65,000 fans in the first half at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
PSG midfielder Joan Neves got what started in the sixth minute from goal.
The 20-year-old scored again in the 39th minute as Intermiami became careless on his half. It was Neves’ first brace of his career.
Five minutes later, a unique goal from Intermiami defender Thomas Aviles, who took the match in the 19th minute, gave PSG a 3-0 lead.
However, no Champions League winner was made as PSG defender Achraf Hakimi scored a small goal in the suspension time as PSG defender Achraf Hakimi entered the locker room 4-0.

“We had a very good game. Even when we won the 4-nil, we didn’t stop. We continued the game and I think it was a positive day for us,” Neves said after the match. “It’s the first time I’ve scored two points in a game, so I’m very happy, but I’m happy with the victory.”
PSG head coach Luis Enrique said it was a “great feeling” after a persuasive victory.
“I am pleased with all the players with their mentality and attitude. I think we need to improve as always. But I am happy.”
PSG will then play either Brazilian club Cr Flamengo or Bundesliga Champion FC Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.
With only three shots in goal against PSG, Miami is the only major league soccer team to advance to the knockout stage, with the Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles FC being eliminated from the competition.
Miami Continent Messi, Luis Suarez, head coaches Javier Mascherano, Sergio Baskett and Jordi Albi faced former coach Enrique who led the historic treble in Barcelona in 2015.
“We worked so hard, we played well during this tournament,” Mascano said. “We know that today is going to be extremely difficult, as we are probably the best team in the world.”
