Actress Jennifer Lawrence is reviving the early 2000s trend of wearing pants over dresses…and the controversy that comes with it.
The “Don’t Look Up” star was recently spotted wearing a purple sheer sleeveless knee-length dress paired with navy La Ligne Colby pants, Manolo Blahnik Sousa flat leather sandals and another late ’90s/early 2000s favorite, The Row’s silk Sophia bucket hat.
Lawrence accessorized with a pair of Poppy sunglasses by Luv Lou and carried an incredibly trendy Stanley Quencher stainless steel tumbler to complete the throwback look.
Clearly not one to shy away from a little controversy, the actress, who is known for being “unfiltered,” as Lawrence put it in a previous interview with Vogue, says a quick get-ready can make her feel elegant.
“I always think that getting ready quickly is elegant,” the actress said in an interview with The Kit in 2023. “It’s weird, but in Eyes Wide Shut, Nicole Kidman has her hair up and she has her glasses on, and then she lets her hair down and takes her glasses off. [this moment of] “Beauty without pretense.”

Lawrence certainly embodies that philosophy with her latest early 2000s-inspired style, and the fashionistas among us may have her role as a mother to thank.
“Time is so precious, especially once you have kids,” the actress told Kit in an interview. “Ever since you had kids, everyone always says the same thing: ‘Time flies.’ I hate to hear that because I don’t want time to fly, but it actually makes you appreciate every moment.” [with him]Every day I slow down and appreciate where he is now.”
Lawrence also seems keen to revive older fashion trends, such as her stylish footwear choices of the past: In July, the Hunger Games star revived the long-lost sneaker trend with a pair of chunky, multi-coloured New Balance x Aimé Leon Dore 1906R Jade sneakers.
The actress accentuated her retro shoes with an oversized white button-up shirt, matching white micro mini shorts from The Row, and a sage green Menemsha Fish Market cap.

Lawrence also highlighted another controversial trend: jelly sandals. In June, the actress was spotted wearing all white to accentuate her twice-sold-out pair of mara flats by The Row.
To accentuate her bold fashion choice, Lawrence wore a white button-up shirt and matching pants that let her $850 flats shine, and just in case people weren’t already intrigued enough by Lawrence’s throwback to Y2K fashion trends, she also wore a pair of old-fashioned parachute pants. Because, why wouldn’t you be?
