Unique Holidays in Utah

Wednesday is Pioneer Day, commemorating the arrival of the first Mormons in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. There are many events celebrating the holiday, but the largest is the Days of ’47 Parade in downtown Salt Lake City. A complete listing of events around the state can be found in The Mix section of today’s print edition and online. (The Mix also has an events listing for Pie and Beer Day, another holiday.)

July 24-27

Country Music Weekend

Billed as “Utah’s largest outdoor camping and music festival,” Country Fan Fest ’24 runs Wednesday through Saturday at the Deseret Peak Complex (2930 Utah Highway 112) in Grantsville. Dozens of performers are scheduled. Headliners are Neal McCoy on Wednesday, Riley Green on Thursday, Baylee Zimmerman on Friday and Jon Pardi on Saturday. Tickets and passes are available at countryfanfest.com.

July 26th – August 4th

Theatre of the Frontier

The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival will feature 20 plays and performances, with everything from absurdist theatre to improvisational theater to so-called “puppet karaoke.” The festival runs from Friday through Aug. 4 at the Alliance Theatre at Trolley Square, 602 E. 500 South in Salt Lake City. July 27-28

Urban Art Festival

The Urban Arts Festival will be held Saturday and the following Sunday at Gateway, 400 W. 200 South in Salt Lake City. The two-day event will include live music, an artist marketplace, live mural painting, a kids’ zone, a pop-up skate park and (Sunday only) a lowrider custom car exhibit. Saturday hours are noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, visit the Utah Arts Alliance website at utaharts.org.
