THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team was recognized academically by the National Collegiate Tennis Association on Monday, when the association announced that five Yellow Jackets student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Additionally, the program earned ITA All-Academic Team honors for the fifth consecutive year.
Georgia Tech was represented individually by Kylie Birchev, Ginger Foster, Meera Jesudason, Scarlett Nicholson and Kate Shalabura. Birchev led the way with the honor for the third time in her career, while Cruz earned the honor for the second time. This is the first time for freshmen Foster, Jesudason and Nicholson to receive the honor. Birchev, Nicholson and Shalabura were also named All-ACC Academic in June.
To be selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. To be recognized as a program, all members of a team must have a grade point average of at least 3.2.
