The Y2K aesthetic is alive and well. From butterfly tops and cargo pants (if cargo skirts are more your style), to bubble hems and charm necklaces, there are countless trends last seen two decades ago that will make a comeback in 2024. Luckily, Gigi Hadid is here to remind us.
The 1995-born supermodel was feeling nostalgic for the 2000s while getting ready for the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine last night. [Monday 22 July] Gigi’s Miu Miu ensemble on the red carpet in New York City seemed to combine every Y2K-related trend into one outfit.
We’re talking a head-turning, vibrant banana yellow leather bandana top paired with a low-rise pleated midi skirt fastened with a wide suede waist belt. As for accessories, Gigi carried a top-handle yellow design adorned with bag charms and stacked chunky bangles on each arm.

I told you, there are so many Y2K trends. Maybe too many. I hate to say it, but in my opinion, there is definitely a limit. We’re here for a throwback or two, and Gigi’s style is taking us back to 2005.
Of course, Gigi’s look is clearly a homage to Wolverine, and she went all out to make that happen. Not a comic book or Marvel fan? Don’t worry. If you watch the trailer, you’ll see that Hugh Jackman’s character wears yellow superhero armor for most of the movie. Color theme: Check.
In terms of details, Wolverine’s trademark whorl and unkempt hair could be interpreted as the inspiration for Gigi’s rockabilly-inspired bangs and flipped ends, while her black manicure features incised nail art that references Wolverine’s famous claws.

Of course, the resemblance became even more apparent when Gigi posed alongside Blake Lively, whose premiere outfit was clearly reminiscent of Deadpool, giving us some glam ketchup and mustard. This is BFF fashion goals for sure.
