Whether she’s hitting the red carpet decked out in head-to-toe feathers or just wearing a bra on her days off, Rihanna sure knows how to make a style statement. But her fashion chops go beyond just looking good. As well as being the face of fashion campaigns for the likes of Louis Vuitton and designing some of the sexiest lingerie we’ve ever seen with her Savage x Fenty collection, the singer has also appeared on the covers of a number of prestigious magazines.
The latest issue is Interview magazine’s Spring 2024 issue, which was styled by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg. Ottenberg has a long history with Rihanna, having previously worked as her celebrity stylist, and the photoshoot marks a reunion between the pair. And as always with Rihanna photoshoots, the photos have caused quite a stir online, especially with Rihanna appearing on the cover as a nun.
Dressed in a traditional nun’s garb and an unbuttoned white shirt, revealing her oiled skin, and wearing heavy makeup – blue eyeshadow, thin brows, glossy red lips and a small cross tattoo on her cheek – the photo perfectly aligns with the interview headline: “Rihanna Ready to Confess.”
What you think about the fit is up to you, but we take it as further proof that Rihanna is a unique fashion queen. Just take a look at some of her past magazine fashion features to see what we mean.
Perhaps the best example is Dazed’s Fall 2021 issue shoot, in which Rihanna played an endless number of different personas through her clothes, from a femme fatale in a red bodysuit, to an Egyptian queen in a towering headdress and flowing strapless gown, to a high-fashion Willy Wonka who paired the character’s top hat and walking stick with an off-the-shoulder denim trench coat, to a literal jointer in a face cut-out costume.
But as far back as 2013, Rihanna wasn’t afraid to have some fun with fashion, posing topless on the cover of GQ magazine as a real-life Medusa, with a snake wrapped around her neck and dozens of snakes adorning her head. Her own snake eyes completed the mythical transformation.
So yeah, there’s no denying it: No one can do something as iconic as Rihanna.
