A character arc narrowed into villain territory by pure jealousy, or a doting fiancé who was acting solely on legitimate emotions only to be betrayed and blindsided? This is a debate I’m sure everyone has a hard time coming to a conclusion on. And by “everyone,” I mean me, because ever since I saw the season 3 finale of Emily in Paris, all I could think about was a Camille-esque dramatic climax… ooh-la-la.
So, with all the possibilities of what’s to come (just a month or so away!), I jumped at the opportunity to sit down, albeit via Zoom, with actress Camille Razatto herself to discuss all things hair and makeup for Season 4, the bad habits we both share, and why she doesn’t wear lipstick in public (i.e. gossip). Spoiler: the answers were very relatable.
But first, let’s address a common mistake made by WFH call newbies: “Um, Camille, I think you’re on mute?” Sorry, I wink and nudge.
With that hurdle cleared, Camille began sharing her best beauty tips, which she’s picked up from her experience working in the industry, not only as an actress but also as a model. “It’s very simple, but I always remove my makeup before going to bed, to let my skin ‘breathe,'” Camille says in her trademark French accent. Wearing a simple short-sleeved T-shirt, her hair hanging loose and unstyled, and not a single speck of makeup on her face, she exudes the effortless chic of a Parisian powerhouse.
“The same goes for when I’m not working,” she continues. “I have a lot of work and shoots, so I try to put as little on my skin as possible. I also love using the gua sha. I use it to de-puff my face, which is really handy if I have an early morning call.” Lymphatic drainage? Camille is an expert in this field!
“I also keep Boiron Homeoplasmin on hand,” adds Camille. “It’s a French cream that’s great for soothing inflammation and has many uses. It’s the best!”

I confessed to Camille that I’d never tried the cream, but she urged me to give it a go. How could you argue with such a natural French “IT” girl glow? Even if I can’t pronounce the product name with the same French flair as her, I seconded her recommendation. It’s all about effort, right?
As well as her love for her trusty homeoplasmin, Camille is passionate about her sources of beauty inspiration, showing just how far-reaching they are when I ask her about her “muse”. “I love the way FKA Twigs styles hair and makeup,” she says of her mother, who has taught her the most.
She continues to gush about the pop star: “I think she’s smart, bold and very edgy. I also love Kate Moss because she’s timeless,” the 30-year-old says, before making a surprising confession: “I wouldn’t shave my head like FKA, but if I wasn’t an actor I’d probably get a mullet.” Surprising, right?!
Well, the mullet has been getting a makeover lately, but is it really that surprising? Julia Fox, Miley Cyrus, Winnie Harlow, and… Camille Lazatto?
In keeping with the theme of talented women who, as Camille puts it, are “very British,” the actor reveals how his EIP co-star Lily Collins inspires him with her on-set habits — habits we could both benefit from emulating. “What’s one thing she always does? She always has water or green tea. Always hydrated. So professional. I need to drink more water like her.” Well, there you have it folks: beauty inspiration basics. Mullet, water, green tea, need I say more?

When they’re not on set, sipping water isn’t the only thing the stars do to pass the time: To achieve what Hollywood folk call “movie magic,” Camille, Emily, and co. regularly undergo a number of dramatic fashion and beauty transformations.
While talking to me about her hair, Camille shared that bleaching her blonde hair for EIP “took a toll” on her hair’s health, leading to “a lot of hair loss” over the next few months. To bounce back from this, Camille swears by one product, and now it’s her favorite product: Authentic Beauty Concepts Glow Serum. “I can definitely see the difference. My hair is growing back, a lot,” says Camille. “It’s super hydrating and protects against heat and UV rays. It’s a multitasking product, so I always use it in the morning before any glamorous hairstyles.”

As those who have tried the spray say for themselves, I can confidently agree with the above opinion: Shiny glassy lengths? Yes, please.
While colouring may have affected the health of her hair in the early stages of filming, Camille says her approach to beauty has evolved since then: “My character has become bolder and edgier to match the person she’s becoming in the story.”
“She’s making her own choices and she’s not worried about what other people think, so it fits really well with the clothes and beauty looks we’ve picked for this season. It’s all sophisticated. It’s close to what people in Paris are wearing these days.”
“My character becomes bolder and edgier in the story, so he becomes bolder and edgier.”
Believe it or not, Parisian beauty is not just about French bobs and red lipstick. The face of beauty, whether in France or in Britain, is constantly evolving, and to represent that, EIP has seen the evolution of the character’s look throughout the show. As the actress says, her beauty story will continue in the next season with a bolder “purple eyeshadow” and finger wave hairstyle.
That being said, in real life, Camille isn’t afraid to tell me that her approach to glamour is quite different from the rest: rather, it’s understated. Apart from wearing brightly patterned socks (exclusive), the new face of Authentic Beauty Concepts explains why she doesn’t wear many bold lip looks: “Well, you know, I like to eat out at restaurants so I don’t have to worry so much about lipstick, you know what I mean?” Yes, Camille, I know exactly what you’re talking about. For this foodie, smudging gloss is no problem!
While the food talk really resonates with me, it’s Camille’s pristine skin that I want to empathize with. Even through the pixels of my supposedly high-definition screen, I can see that this bare-faced beauty has skin as clear as anyone. Presuming she has a skincare routine to match, I admit to being fascinated by her skin, and in so doing, nervously reveal a habit that beauty journalists should never reveal: picking blemishes. I know it’s sacrilegious, but in an attempt to draw out a bad habit from Camille (and I doubt she has any), I speak candidly about it, and I’m amazed at her reaction.
Laughter ensues, and Camille admits that they are “the same.” The same?! Me and Camille Lazat?! It’s a humble brag, but it cements my reputation.
“As soon as I saw it [a blemish] “I know I shouldn’t do that! It’s so gross but at the same time I find it so satisfying – you know, watching it pop. It’s gross but it’s a bad habit,” says Camille. Plus, like me, she admits to watching pimp popping videos online! Who would have thought we’d find ourselves in a mutual love affair with Dr. Pimp Popper?

Bad habits aside, Camille was quick to share her good habits, telling us about her current favourite treatment, which is also a favourite of Jennifer Lopez. According to Camille, the HydraFacial is “the best treatment ever,” as it gently suctions and draws out dirt from pores, while simultaneously hydrating and saturating the surface of the skin with intense moisture, delivering enviable results, as her face attests.
Unfortunately, despite her familiarity with beauty culture, there’s one treatment Camille hasn’t tried yet. “I’d love to try PRP, a vampire facial,” she enthuses. A vampire facial is a treatment made famous by Kim Kardashian, and, simply put, it combines microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate collagen production in the skin. Between filming her many TV shows and movies, it’s no wonder Camille just couldn’t find the time to get this treatment.
With my vampire image and sacred time with Camille ticking away, I took my final shots and asked my new beauty mogul (and best friend) for more details on her latest offering. Per her recent Instagram post, I asked: “I saw you recently alluding to something interesting on social media… pirates and SFX makeup? Can you say something about this?” In response to my delight, Camille casually dropped a hint: “It’s a series, I’m the villain in it and I’m so happy. It’s made in France and will be on Netflix. Oh, and lots of SFX makeup. That’s all I can say.”
In other words, a far cry from her current roles – perhaps the finely detailed villain at the end of EIP season 3 helped to awaken her inner “baddie”?
So the gossip has begun… my DM is open to theories and speculations alike, but whatever it may be, I’m sure Camille will bring world-class talent and beauty to all her future works (even when covered in prosthetics!).
