ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Fashion met philanthropy Tuesday night at an epic screening of “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” resulting in a stunning mix of style and substance.

“We are one of the few places in the country, certainly the only library, that can premiere this documentary, and it’s centered around the film festival, and the St. Louis County Library is one of them,” said Kristen South, director and CEO of St. Louis County Library.

This documentary offers an intimate look at Diane von Furstenberg as a trailblazer, fashion icon and truly responsible woman. The film premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival and captivated audiences around the world.

St. Louis has a popular fashion community that most people don’t know about.

“I think it’s also interesting to show that fashion is alive and well in St. Louis. You know, St. Louis is home to 800 fashion-related businesses, a multi-billion dollar economy. We used to have a garment district. Fashion is in the DNA of our city,” said Susan Sherman, co-founder of the St. Louis Fashion Fund.

The St. Louis County Library and the St. Louis Fashion Fund hosted a red carpet reception where attendees were encouraged to wear DVF and show off Diane’s iconic designs. The film features interviews with global celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Marc Jacobs.

The film delves into Diane’s journey from creating the legendary wrap dress to becoming one of the most powerful women in fashion according to Forbes magazine.

“Diane von Furstenberg is an icon. When I think of fashion, I think of her — her strength as a woman and as an entrepreneur. Her idea of making a basic dress fit every woman’s body,” said attendee Krista Tolbert.

Fashion isn’t about what you wear, it’s how you wear your story. Audience members said the film taught them how to tell their own story.

For those who missed the screening, the documentary is available to stream on Hulu.
