Yomil Hidalgo continues to tour different European cities, but the trip has also given the reggaeton artist an opportunity to reflect on the reach of Cuban urban music beyond the island.

The Cuban singer shared his thoughts on the matter on his Instagram Story, which will be valuable for young artists looking to make their music heard on other continents: “This tour was very enlightening. I came to understand that the music we make does not cross borders. Here, the way people listen to music is completely different from the way we make it,” Yomil explained in the post.

Still, the artist’s thoughts don’t suggest he’s about to give up; rather, he’s looking to reorient his music to suit international tastes. “I can’t wait to go back to Cubita and focus on my career. I feel like I’ve been slacking and I know my potential. I don’t have that luxury. As always, I’m going to work harder,” the reggaeton artist declared.

For several weeks, Yomil has been touring cities in Spain, Italy and Germany with his partner Daniella Reyes and his band, and the reggaeton star’s next performance will be on July 24th at the inaugural Barcelona Goes Reggaeton Festival, which will also feature Gente de Zona.
